Backlink Party: A Look Back at a Collaborative SEO Experiment

For several years, JamboJon hosted what we called Backlink Parties—collaborative workshops designed to help business leaders understand SEO and build stronger digital connections with one another.

The idea was simple: instead of treating search engine rankings like a competition, what if businesses worked together to strengthen the web?

At these events, we brought together entrepreneurs, founders, and marketing leaders to learn the foundations of search engine optimization. We talked about how search engines evaluate content, what makes a page valuable to readers, and why thoughtful, well-structured articles tend to perform better in search results.

As the workshops evolved, we also began demonstrating how emerging AI tools could support the content creation process—helping business owners brainstorm relevant topics, organize ideas, and develop useful resources for their audiences.

But the real magic of the Backlink Party happened in the collaborative portion of the event.

Participants partnered with other business leaders in the room to identify natural opportunities to reference one another’s expertise, resources, and articles. When done correctly, these contextual backlinks help search engines understand authority and credibility, while also introducing audiences to complementary businesses and services.

One of our favorite sessions was taught with the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses alumni community, where experienced entrepreneurs came together to share knowledge, create strategic content ideas, and form partnerships that extended well beyond the event itself.

The Backlink Parties were never about gaming the system. They were about learning how the internet actually works—and using that knowledge to create helpful content and authentic connections.

While we no longer host these events today, the original Backlink Party page still documents the framework we used. It remains a helpful resource for anyone interested in understanding how collaboration, good content, and strategic linking can strengthen a website’s visibility over time.
